Travis & Chelsea

Is it too early in the season to declare my favourite wedding?? Having a favourite wedding, is like having a favourite child. Buuuut, if I had to choose one....

If you are not familiar, Canada is a VAST country. Where I'm located in central Alberta, our culture largely revolves around farming and the oilfield. It can be faster paced and maybe even a little less welcoming. But way off in the east, in Newfoundland, it's a slower way of life. Fishing is the largest industry and the people are a whole other breed of Canadian friendly. EVERYone is family. That's exactly how I felt while I tagged along with Travis and Chelsea for their wedding. Chelsea was born and raised in Newfoundland and that incredible hospitality was rampant the whole day.

The day started bright and early on this warm, cloudy day. It was the perfect weather for photos. The wedding party was an absolute blast! We did a beer run, traipsed to the river and I even got kicked in the face Haha! I can't wait to edit those photos to see who the actual culprit was, it all happened so fast lol!! What's a wedding without a black eye.

An incredibly touching moment that morning was the bride's gift to her husband. She sent him a heartfelt letter and a photo pin of his late grandmother who had raised him. It was such a loving gesture to make sure that she was going to be close to his heart all day.

The fun kicked up again and kept right on into the reception with the "screeching in" of the wedding party. If you don't know what that means, I didn't either! It's a ceremony to initiate someone as an official Newfie. In includes eating some balogna, wearing a fisherman's hat and kissing a cod.

One of the more unique things about this wedding was the first dance. It began as the father/daughter dance, but transitioned into Dad handing his daughter off to her new husband and them continuing into their first dance. So beautiful! I loved it so much I actually decided to include it as an idea for other bride's in my annual magazine. Another amazing detail I loved was the grande entrance. Instead of the traditional receiving line after the ceremony, the couple entered the reception and ran around to each table greeting and drinking with each one. Hell yeah.
