The Story of this Photographer
How does one just start writing about themselves? How do you describe your life, values, and experiences in just a few paragraphs? Well, I'm not to sure so I'll give it my best shot!
My upbringing was very colourful and gypsy like. This transferred into my young adulthood. Despite all obstacles and experiences, I have remained an annoyingly positive person!
I met my husband, whom I am still grossly infatuated with, in our early 20's. We started out as close friends and one day it blossomed into something a little more. Eventually he would turn into the love of my life. We married and created two beautiful babies together. After having our first born, I decided to purchase my first camera. It was a Canon Rebel T5i, which I still own. I have an emotional attachment to it and can't seem to let it go. lol My intent was not to turn it into a career, but just to be able to capture moments for my family. My beautiful new baby boy was my new muse, and this very quickly turned into an obsession.
I decided to take a beginners photography class with BRZ Photography. I pestered some of my photographer friends for tips and advice. Then I decided to opened up a Facebook Business page, still with only the intent to pursue photography part time, especially after finding out I was pregnant with our second. I was about to be a member of the two under two club. Having babies 18 months apart is no joke!
After my Daughter was born I started taking more classes, mentorships and upgrading equipment. I very quickly started picking up where I left off and didn't even realize I was well on my way to a career. That all came to a screeching halt in 2020. Everyones lives were interrupted. In April 2020, on top of dealing with a pandemic, we were also given some unfortunate news.
Our 22 month old daughter was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma. This is a rare form of childhood cancer effecting the eye. We spent months going to chemo therapy sessions, and appointments in Edmonton, Calgary, and all the way to Toronto. Eventually we discovered that we could not stop the cancer, so we chose to remove her eye. This was not an easy decision. It was the hardest day of our lives. We are honoured to say that she has now been in remission for almost 3 years because of that day! Our gorgeous little girl now rocks a sparkling gold prosthetic eye, by her own choice. She chooses to embrace her uniqueness and proudly display her fight. The only fighting she does now is with her big brother..... every day... all day long.... lol
Why tell my life story for the internet to see?!?! I want anyone from any walk in life to feel comfortable and excepted. I believe in transparency and want all of my clients to feel like they know me. Having someone capture your intimate moments means placing trust in some one. How do you trust some one you don't know? So at the risk of oversharing, I expose myself to you, like a friend would. That and I'm a Chatty Cathy.
There something else to be taken from this. You never know what life has in store. We don't know how many days we have left. Life is not promised to us. We should be capturing our connections with our loved ones. Photos of grandparents snuggling their legacies, parents holding their babies because they are only little once, cousins giggling and playing together on the family farm, a couple so in love that they want the world to see. These are the moments I want to capture. These are the memories I want you to be able to hold onto forever.
Down to Business!
Why choose me? Because all of my equipment and training are top of the line! I take pride in my work and would only offer the best to my clients. Here is a little run down on my gear and training!
- To shoot I always carry two camera's and have a back up on stand by just in case there are any issues with one. You can never have too many fail-safe's! I shoot with a Canon R6 MII Mirrorless as my main camera, a Canon R6 Mirrorless as a secondary and my backup is a Canon 6D MII.
- I have a wide array of lenses including a 24-70mm 2.8, 70-200mm 2.8, 35mm Sigma Art, 85mm 1.8, 100mm macro (perfect for those ring shots!), 50mm, etc.
- I also have a set of 3 round head flashes to light up the dance floor perfectly.
I LOVE to learn and hone my craft. I'm constantly taking workshops and classes to become a better photographer. These are just a few that I've found to be especially educational.
